Weekend Greeting (jul 23, 2005)

This weekend take just a moment to consider the myriad of peoples who inhabit this globe of ours. They’re everywhere. The people in this picture are caught in the rush hour of a huge metropolis of over a million people. Some are rich, some are poor, some are what we call “middle class,” some are owners of homes, some are owners of a sheet of cardboard on which they sleep, some are doctors and lawyers, some are homeless, some are abusers, some are abused, some are students, some are teachers, some are drug pushers, some are pharmacists, and some are fishermen!

People around the globe are like fish in the ocean of humanity, waiting to be caught in the net of God’s love and acceptance. YOU have the net with which God will scoop them up unto Himself.

“And Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee (Grk. ‘the heathen circle’) saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And He said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.” Matthew 4:18-20

Let’s leave the traditional nets of our preconceived ideas, and follow the Voice of the Holy Spirit. There’s FISH out there, folks! And after the fish are caught in the net of God’s love and brought on board, God begins fulfilling the plans He has had for them all along. Each single person in the ocean of humanity is important to God.

This man is “one in a million” going along life’s path, but God says something about him:

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 Revised Standard Version
