Weekend Greetings (oct 31, 2008)

Doesn’t it almost take your breath away when you see a full moon rising in early evening sky? This picture was taken in mid-October a couple hours after the moonrise over the horizon, just as it began its journey into the darkness of night.

Did you know that the white light of a full moon is actually the reflection of the sun’s light during the night? When seen in the blackness of the night, the moon can bring a peace and calm to anyone’s heart. When the moon is full there is a fresh cleanness in the air. The clouds surrounding the moon here are even lit up by the sun’s reflective light.

Now, keep those thoughts of the moon reflecting the fulness of the sun’s light in the night. Did you know that when Jesus walked the earth that He was actually the reflection of His Father’s glory in the political and social world of that age? When Jesus was seen in the gloominess of society way back then, He brought a peace and calm to countless people’s lives. When Jesus was on the scene back in darkest hour of people’s lives 2,000 years ago, He healed their hearts, bodies, emotions and even their families. He brought a fresh cleanness into people’s lives.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for SIGNS, and for seasons, and for days, and years. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give LIGHT upon the earth,” and it was so. And God made the lesser light to rule the night.” Genesis 1:14-16

Philip said, “Master, show us the Father; then we’ll be content.” Jesus answered, “You’ve been with me all this time, Philip, and you still don’t understand? To see me is to see the Father.” John 14:8-9 The Message.

Jesus was a perfect reflection of His Father’s glorious light in that societal night. If the moon is a perfect reflection of the light of the sun in the darkness of night, then Jesus was a perfect reflection of the glory of His Father in the darkened society of when He walked the earth. Today we have the same moon, the same sun and the same darkness as they had back then. WOW! Today we have the same Jesus, the same Father God and the very same spiritual, emotional and physical darkness as they had back then!

Why not this weekend head for church and get some of that reflective glory to pack home with you to let shine in whatever darkness you might run into next week. Do you remember what Jesus said about you?

“Ye are the light of the world.

Let your light shine before men.”

Matthew 5:14, 16.
