Maybe you’ve never even really thought about Gospel humor, let alone heard any, but I bought this album at a Bible bookstore in Federal Way, WA this past summer while visiting family. It was the title that caught my eye by surprise . . . DOGS GO TO HEAVEN.

Sit back and enjoy this 4:05-minute comedy/live by Mark Lowry.

“A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance . . .” Proverbs 15:13.  The original Hebrew word for “merry” in this verse is שָׂמֵחַ (sä·mā’·akh ) and means joyful, merry, glad. The word for “heart” is לֵב (lāv) and means the inner man, mind, will, soul, conscience, seat of emotions and passions, heart of moral character. Using these words in their original form, one can re-word the Bible verse to say, “A joyful, merry and glad inner man makes for a cheerful countenance.”

“ . . . he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.” Proverbs 15:15. The original Hebrew word in this verse for “merry” is a little different that the one in the previous paragraph. The word here is טוֹב (tōve) and means good, pleasant, agreeable. The word “heart” is the same. So, one can re-word this verse and read it as  “ . . . he that is of a good, pleasant and agreeable mind hath a continual feast,” or in other words is always satisfied.

Then there is perhaps this most well-known of all ⏤

“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine . . .” Proverbs 17:22. Using the original Hebrew words for “merry” and “heart” in this verse, one can re-word it rightly by saying, “A joyful, merry and glad emotional being does good like a medicine . . . ”

This last verse describes what Candace Payne was to the woman in this video who had been sick and despondent.  Joanna was sick and dealing with business problems when Nick Isabelle decided to uplift her spirits with this video. As you can tell via the progression of this video, it worked! Note here that it was NOT Nick who became the medicine that Joanna needed, but it was Candace Payne! She was the one who allowed the Joy of The Lord to flow through her to become a medicine of laughter to over 150,000,000 people, including Joanna, in just a few days.

You will absolutely love this classic from the days way back then of television’s HEE HAW Archie Campbell. It’s the story of Cinderella told backwards. A classic, this one should be watched way more than just once. Viewing it is a wonderful chance for parents and grandparents to sit with their children, marvel and laugh all at once.

This classic presentation is a TRIBUTE TO ARCHIE CAMPBELL, back when TV was clean.
