December 11, 1993 visit to Oita City. This statue of Francis Xavier stands in front of the Oita train station. He is known for having brought the first Western musical instrument (a violin) in to Japan; also for having performed the first surgical operation.
The written Japanese character for "love" is pronounced "I." This piece of original calligraphy really says it all.
