We’re seeing decorations and hearing plans about celebrating Christmas already! You might want to sit down with the family and listen to Da Jesus Book presentation of Wen Jesus born by clicking on the link below. It will make you smile real big!
This soft-cover book is published by Wycliffe Bible Translators, the world’s largest organization involved in translating the Bible into the languages of native people. Linguistics professor Joseph Grimes worked with 26 Pidgin speakers in a 12-year translation effort. Grimes was a visiting professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1986 and later moved to the Waianae coast of O’ahu to work on this project after his retirement from Cornell University.
What is Pidgin? Pidgin is a language born of the mix of tongues brought to Hawaii in the late 1800s by immigrant sugar-cane laborers from China, Japan, Portugal, Puerto Rico, the Philippines and other countries. Their need for a common language produced what the translators of Da Jesus Book call “Hawai’i Creole English,” popularly known as Pidgin.
